Use Time • Place • Purpose: decide when screens are allowed, where devices can be used, and what they’re for. Keep it simple and consistent.
Use calm, everyday language: “I’m here to help you stay safe.” Focus on choices (what to do) more than dangers (what might happen).
Start with questions: Who’s in it? What’s being shared? How does it make you feel? Then set a clear plan: mute/leave, block if needed, and save screenshots only for adult help.
Adopt a family norm: Ask before you post. No sharing names, school details, faces, or locations without consent, especially for younger children (ages 3-12).
Teach a quick reset: Pause, Protect, Proceed. Pause before responding, protect feelings and privacy, then proceed with a respectful message, or ask an adult for support.
